I’m Charlie Mager, a published author and communications professional with 10 years of experience creating content for print and digital audiences. My work includes historical nonfiction, feature writing, human-interest profiles, press releases, website content, professional commentary, and imaginative fiction.
My first book, The Spirit of Missouri, is a 325-page chronicle exploring Missouri’s professional sports history and cultural legacy, published in July 2025. I am also developing Bobby and the Game Keepers, a historical-fantasy saga that blends American history, magic, baseball, and time.
Through both nonfiction and fiction, I use research-driven, audience-focused storytelling to connect people with history, culture, and the experiences that shape them.

The Spirit of Missouri
I have always been fascinated by historical nonfiction, especially moments from the 20th Century onward. My first published book, The Spirit of Missouri, takes you back in time to Missouri’s professional sports history and cultural legacy. From pioneering athletes and influential teams to innovations that changed sports nationwide, the book brings together the people, places, and defining moments that helped shape the Show-Me State.
Missouri.
America’s Heartland.
A land that conjures up images, both good and bad. The same goes for the sports that have occurred here. However, a bigger part is the fact that many practices have been initiated in sports, either at the collegiate, Olympic, or professional level, that have permanently impacted professional sports worldwide to this day.
Many sports firsts also came from here.
For instance, did you know that the forward pass in football became legal in St. Louis? In Kansas City, the Negro National League was formed. Also, the first female owner in pro baseball history was Helene Britton with the Cardinals in the early 20th Century, and the farm system started here, to name a few.
This story is dedicated to promoting the history of professional sports in Missouri, bringing back to light many subjects and occurrences in one of the greatest forms of entertainment.
Bobby and the Game Keepers
Bobby and the Game Keepers is my historical-fantasy saga following Bobby and four guardians on an enchanted journey through baseball and American history. Traveling decade by decade, they encounter legendary figures, defining moments, supernatural forces, and the consequences of possessing the power to influence history.
Blending researched history with magic, adventure, and character-driven storytelling, the saga explores loyalty, legacy, sacrifice, and the responsibility that comes with protecting the game.
